What I Think

No one would argue with me when I say twitter search is a very useful thing. Now it’s getting better.

Twitter search used to crawl only the text in tweets, soon it’ll start crawling links in tweet and index the pages making it almost an alternative to google search for upto the second information.

The trending topics will integrate reputation ranking system which ranks the search results on the basis of reputation of the person. How this reputation will be calculated is still unknown, though I think the number of retweets and linking will be taken into consideration.

The ranking system would help twitter search in reducing or eliminateing the noise by removing retweets and irrelevent content.

Other changes – Twitter follower notification emails have changed from plain text to full html earlier today. It now gives information like the number of people the user is following, how many people are following the user and the total number of updates tweeted. Now with all this information it is easier to weed out spammers. Addition of user’s bio and last 5 or 10 tweets would have been more helpful.

Note: the lack of pictures is because I wrote the entire article on mobile. Sorry.

There are a lot of browser add-ons and software for twitter but this one is a lot simpler than all of them cause it is a bookmarklet.

All you have to do is to enter your Twitter username and password –

Click Create and drag the Twitlet button to the bookmarks bar.

Now just click the bookmarklet and twit, you don’t even have to enter your username or password cause account details are encrypted and stored in the bookmarklet.

my twit

Click ok and

here’s my twit –

the twit

If you want to include the URL you’re currently viewing, just add #this or #link to your update, and Twitlet automatically generates a truncated URL via is.gd.

This is the fastest and the easiest way to twitter.

A new service Qwitter was launched today which tells you who stopped following you on Twitter and why.

Qwitter will send you an e-mail notification whenever someone stops following you on twitter.

Though I think one is better off without knowing why and when someone is un-following you but if you are curious just put in your twitter name and your email address and you’ll start getting messages when people un-follow you along including the latest tweet you’d posted before they pulled the plug. There is an unsubscribe link too if you are having second-thoughts after signing up for bad news.

IM Twitter

So where did the IM go? It has been off for a few months now and there seems to be no return either.

So shouldn’t twitter get the word ‘IM’ off it’s ads?

Twitter the popular micro blogging site has refreshed it’s interface and the new one is cooler, smoother and better. Updated tabs, a new design customizer, and Ajax work on the back end are the major features of this release.

The tabs which were on the top of the timeline has been moved to  right sidebar and is bigger. The following/followers/updates stats  has been moved to the top of the page and made larger. Ajax for speed –
When you click on the Home or @Replies tab when you’re already on that page, the updates are now refreshed via Ajax, instead of loading the whole page, which should be faster.

The star and reply swoosh comes up only when you hover over an update.

New design customizer
For some people, this design probably does not look better. If you’ve customized your Twitter colors, it’s possible you have a combination that doesn’t look quite right with this new design. We did our best to maintain customizations in a pleasing way. But if, for example, you have a white sidebar or sidebar border color, it may not look quite right.
But good news! One new feature we’ve added is a completely revamped design customizer, which you’ll find under Settings / Design.

With this tool, you can choose from pre-designed themes, as well as play with your color scheme and background and see the results in real time.
