USB 3.0 is coming

Posted on: November 17, 2008

USB 3.0 will be unveiled next Monday, and so far the new specs for the protocol look incredible, promising 25GB transfers in a mere 70 seconds. To put that in perspective, the same transfer would take 13.9 minutes with the current USB 2.0 protocol and 9.3 hours on USB 1.0.

It’ll apparently be able to transfer at blisteringly fast speeds of 5Gbps per second (roughly 600MB per second), or for media junkies that’s about an average sized movie or eight average sized music albums EVERY SECOND.

The sad part is we’ll have to wait for it to be launched. It is expected to come out late 2009 or early 2010.
