uTorrent 1.8 released

Posted on: August 11, 2008

uTorrent one of the most popular BitTorrent client has released the next major version 1.8. The major feature added is Teredo (Teredo is a tunneling protocol designed to grant IPv6 connectivity to nodes that are located behind IPv6-unaware NAT devices. It defines a way of encapsulating IPv6 packets within IPv4 UDP datagrams that can be routed through NAT devices and on the IPv4 internet.) and and IPv6 support.

Some recent fixes are –

  • Magnet URI file/directory naming
  • Work around Windows bug with network drives and sparse files
  • Crash with Torrent and RSS items selected when setting labels
  • Write MIME associations to a user-writable location in the registry, for limited user accounts
  • Check the ‘complete’ folder for items downloaded from RSS, same as adding manually.

Other new features are better Windows Firewall registration on Vista and improved distribution of new connections across torrents. The current release is windows only, although the mac version is well on the way and will be available in a few weeks. uTorrent 1.8 can be downloaded from the uTorrent website.
