Gmail has a bad habit of considering the person you’ve mailed a few times as a contact. For instance I usually mail to the persons who have commented in this blog. After 2-3 such mails they are added to my contact list and appear in the chat window as well and even if those 3 mail were all I sent. Then I have to go to the contact manager and manually delete the contact.
An updated version of Gmail’s contact manager has a separate section for the people you’ve emailed: “suggested contacts”. The persons you mail are added to “suggested contacts” and from there you get the option to move the person to your contacts list “My Contacts”.
This feature is currently being rolled out and will soon be seen in everyone’s contact manager.
